Going to the Theatre

The NHS has been so wonderful. After a MRI scan showed Cancer of the womb  (Cancer of the uterus / Endoscopic Cancer) I was quickly booked in for a full robotic hysterectomy. On Thursday 9th September 2012, I went to Lister Hospital, Stevenage. I had done the COVID test. As mine was the biggest operation, I was booked in first. Walked down the the theatre where I met the anaesthetist, lay down in the vast white room under the large lights. Weird to think that my consultant who would be carrying out the operation would be nowhere near me but on a computer in the corner of the room!

 Woke up some time later and was wheeled to a ward of four ladies. I slept on an off for about 12 hours. Tommy did come to visit me, but I was very sleepy and a bit out of it. 

 The doctor came round the next day and said that it had all been a success and that I could go home, I could not believe how quickly I had been discharged. I have 5 wounds on my stomach, and just taking paracetamol, no morphine needed.

 For Nine years now I have now been on Tamoxifen which has kept any breast cancer at bay. One of the side effects of it is that it can cause cancer of the womb.. yep, I’ve got it. But would not advise anyone not to take tamoxifen as womb cancer is usually not as invasive and quick spreading as breast cancer. 

Nip it in the bud

Three thirty in the morning. It's been over a year and a half since I had my breast reconstruction. This morning I am back to the Lister Hospital for nipple reconstruction. I will then have to wait sometime for that form to heal before I then get it tattooed to match t'other side.

Pre op

It's two in the morning. I cannot sleep, have to get up in 3 hours to get ready for my big op. Last night I had to drink two bottles Of pre-op drink. Then shower in pink anti-bac fluid. I do have the startings of a cold so they may have to postpone the reconstruction. If they did at least then I wouldn't miss the twins' 11th birthday or the funeral of our wonderful friend Al who passed away yesterday morning. Cancer sucks. 

Blimey, that was quick!

Hello, and happy new year! Well this week I telephoned the plastic surgeons secretary, to ask if she had a date for me to have my reconstructive surgery. I had been told that the waiting list was up to four months. She allocated me a date in mid March, which suited me. Then she suddenly announced that she had a cancellation and that they could do it next week!!

So tomorrow I go in for my pre op bits and tests for a few hours. Have madly rushed around sorting out childcare, new dressing gown and slippers (I should be in for about 5-6 days from next Tuesday). To have a free tram flap (don't look if you're squeamish.... It's an 8 hour major surgery).  






So basically I get a free tummy tuck thrown in!
